A „House Concert“ by the dancer Sahra Huby
In DANCE KITCHEN, Sahra Huby invites the audience to spend an evening in a private apartment. The evening is inspired by the structure of a House Concert. Dances are presented like songs, between each of which, one can speak, eat and drink.
The dances are not finished pieces but sketches, ideas and talks, which are shared with the audience in an atmosphere of experimentation and exchange.
The dance is used as a way to communicate and reflect on the world.
Sahra Huby started this project in 2016, from the wish to create an independant, alternative way to share her dance practice with an audience. She decided to open up her private (and working) space, and so her apartment became a platform for performance and dialogue.
The intimate context of a private space creates a very particular setting for a close encounter with the audience and a reflection on performance in an everydaysetting.
Dance Kitchen offers a very concrete and casual entry into the artistic world of a contemporary dancer, her way to reflect on things, on society, on art.
It is an evening that gives time to meet each other, and to think and talk about dance rather than just watching it.

ABOUT SAHRA HUBY
I’m working since 12 years as a freelance dancer with many different choreographers around Europe, continually collaborating with the german choreographer Anna Konjetzky in
Munich. With her, I created several group pieces as well as soli, like „Abdrücke“ in 2010 (invited to the Tanzplattform Deutschland2012), „chipping“ in 2014, and „MOVE MORE MORPH IT!“in 2018.
I’m also developing my own research, creating formats for researches and encounters with other artists, as well as formats for performances.
On a physical level, I’m interested in quite intense and multi-layered body qualities and states. One important aspect of my work is also the principle of thinking and communicating through the body. I like to use the body as an instrument to develop ideas in a different way. A few years ago I started my first own project, in my apartment: "Dance Kitchen“.
